Document Scanning Centres Across Canada
Three Protected B centres. One Canadian-only standard.
Nimble operates Canada’s largest privately owned scanning fleet across three Protected B certified facilities — with capacity exceeding one million pages per shift. A Protected B scanning centre is a facility certified by the Government of Canada to handle classified and sensitive information, including federal records, regulated-industry documents, and personal data covered by PHIPA and PIPEDA. Nimble operates three of them — and serves the rest of Canada through bonded pickup and transport. Every scan, every microfilm reel, every aperture card, every blueprint stays in Canada, under bonded chain of custody, handled by Canadian staff.
What This Means
Three terms do a lot of work on this page. Here’s what each one means in practice.
Protected B certification
Protected B is a Government of Canada security classification for information that could cause serious injury if compromised. A Protected B facility, system, or operator has passed Government of Canada security assessments covering physical security, personnel screening, IT controls, and information handling. For federal departments and many regulated industries, Protected B is a procurement requirement — not a nice-to-have.
Bonded chain of custody
Bonded transport means your records are picked up and moved by couriers who carry insurance bonds and provide unbroken, signature-traced documentation from your facility to ours. Every box, reel, drawing, or carton is logged at pickup, in transit, and on arrival. Chain of custody documentation is auditable and admissible — important for legal, healthcare, and government records subject to discovery or audit.
Library and Archives Canada specifications
LAC specifications define the technical standards — resolution, file format, metadata, and quality control — that federal records must meet to be retained as digitized records. Scanning to LAC specifications is what allows federal departments to legally retire paper after digitization. Nimble’s Ottawa centre is purpose-built around these specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where are Nimble's scanning centres located?+
Nimble operates three Protected B certified scanning centres in Canada: Aurora, ON (headquarters and main processing); Ottawa, ON (federal operations); and Winnipeg, MB (western Canadian operations). A Québec City sales office supports federal Québec and Québec provincial clients, with bonded pickup to Ottawa. All other Canadian cities are served through bonded pickup to the nearest centre.
What is a Protected B scanning facility?+
A Protected B scanning facility is one certified by the Government of Canada to handle Protected B classified information — sensitive personal, commercial, or government records whose compromise could cause serious injury. Certification covers physical security, personnel screening, IT systems, and information handling. Protected B is a procurement requirement for federal departments and many regulated industries.
What is bonded chain of custody?+
Bonded chain of custody means your records are picked up and moved by insured, bonded couriers who provide unbroken, signature-traced documentation from your facility to ours. Every box is logged at pickup, in transit, and on arrival. The resulting documentation is auditable and admissible — essential for legal, healthcare, and government records subject to discovery or audit.
Do you serve cities without a Nimble centre?+
Yes. Nimble provides bonded pickup and transport from any Canadian city to the nearest Protected B facility — Aurora, Ottawa, or Winnipeg. Cities including Calgary, Edmonton, Montréal, Vancouver, and Halifax have dedicated service-area pages with regional context, and bonded pickup is available across the rest of Canada on request.
Are documents transported by Nimble staff or third-party couriers?+
Documents are transported by bonded couriers under contract with Nimble, with full chain-of-custody documentation. For sensitive or large-volume projects, Nimble's own logistics team can manage transport directly. The handling, documentation, and audit trail are identical either way.
Where is the actual scanning work performed?+
All scanning, indexing, OCR, and storage happen in one of Nimble's three Protected B certified Canadian facilities — Aurora, Ottawa, or Winnipeg. Records do not transit to other facilities or leave Canadian jurisdiction at any point.
Does Nimble handle bilingual or French-language documents?+
Yes. The Ottawa centre supports bilingual indexing, French-language OCR, and bilingual project management for federal and Québec-based clients. Bilingual delivery is also available for clients served through bonded pickup from Québec.
How are originals returned after scanning?+
Three options: originals returned to your facility, stored in Nimble's secure archive (often paired with Active File Management), or destroyed with formal certificate of destruction. The choice is yours and is set during project scoping.
