Canadian data residency isn’t Canadian control
The US Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data (CLOUD) Act (2018) lets US authorities compel a US-based provider to hand over data in its possession, custody, or control regardless of where that data is stored — including in Canada. So a foreign-owned platform with a Canadian data centre can still be reached under foreign law. The Government of Canada’s own guidance notes that as long as a provider operating in Canada is subject to a foreign country’s laws, Canada does not have full sovereignty over its data.
NimbleSign removes that exposure. Nimble is 100% Canadian-owned with no foreign parent; NimbleSign is built and hosted in Canada, and data never leaves Canadian jurisdiction. It runs from Protected B facilities with security-cleared staff, is SOC 2 Type II audited and ITSP.10.033 (ITSG-33) aligned, and can be self-hosted inside your own environment. Electronic signatures are legally binding in Canada under PIPEDA and provincial electronic-commerce legislation — such as Ontario’s Electronic Commerce Act, 2000 and British Columbia’s Electronic Transactions Act — when the signer’s identity and intent are clear and the document’s integrity is preserved.
