British Columbia changed how public bodies can store personal information in 2021. A Vancouver digitization plan should reflect the current rules:

FIPPA after the 2021 amendments

Amendments in force since November 25, 2021 removed FIPPA's blanket requirement to store personal information in Canada. Public bodies now complete a privacy impact assessment instead, including a risk assessment when sensitive personal information would be stored outside Canada. Because Nimble processes and stores everything in Canada, there is no outside-Canada storage to assess.

PIPA for private-sector records

Vancouver businesses — law firms, financial services, port and logistics companies — fall under BC's Personal Information Protection Act. Documented chain of custody and Canadian-only processing make it simple to show how client and employee records were handled.
