How This Differs From...
Office-grade large-format scanners
Office wide-format scanners are designed for occasional use and standard substrates. Production digitization handles thousands or millions of drawings, mixed substrates, fragile or damaged drawings, and tight quality and indexing standards. General document scanning
Most scanning vendors are equipped for letter and legal-sized documents, not E-size drawings on mylar or sepia prints. Drawing digitization requires different equipment, different operators, and different quality control.
CAD re-drafting from scratch
Re-drafting drawings into modern CAD is the most expensive option and only justified for drawings that will be actively modified going forward. For preservation, retrieval, and compliance, raster scanning is the right answer. CAD conversion can be added selectively for drawings that need it.
